House Oversight Committee to Establish Subcommittee for Trump’s ‘Department of Government Efficiency’

The House Oversight Committee announced the formation of a subcommittee to work with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy on President-elect Donald Trump’s “Department of Government Efficiency.” The subcommittee, to be chaired by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, aims to align with the Trump administration’s goals of cutting government waste and streamlining operations. Trump had appointed Musk and Ramaswamy to lead the department in an effort to reduce federal spending and regulations. The group, known as DOGE, will operate outside the government and focus on cutting costs. Musk and Ramaswamy emphasized their commitment to hiring a small team of individuals who support small government principles and will work closely with the White House Office of Management and Budget. Greene, who has served on the Oversight Committee since 2023, had previously been removed from her committees for promoting conspiracy theories. Members of the committee, as well as the Trump team, did not respond to requests for comment on this new subcommittee’s formation.
