A police report released by the Monterey Police Department in California revealed that a woman, identified as “Jane Doe,” accused Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for defense secretary, of sexually assaulting her at a hotel event in Monterey in 2017. Hegseth denies any wrongdoing and was not charged in connection with the incident. The woman confronted Hegseth at the event after allegedly witnessing how he treated women. She reported feeling fuzzy after consuming alcohol at a bar attached to the hotel where Hegseth was also present. The woman alleged that Hegseth followed her, took her phone, and blocked her from leaving a room before engaging in non-consensual sexual acts. Hegseth claimed that the encounter was consensual and that the woman showed signs of regret afterward. The woman went to the hospital for a sexual assault exam four days after the incident. Hegseth’s attorney maintains that the police found the allegations to be false and that no charges were filed. These allegations are not the first time high-profile picks for Trump’s Cabinet have faced sexual impropriety accusations. The Trump transition team did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the matter.
