Georgia State football is gearing up for a matchup against Appalachian State on Oct. 26, looking to secure their first conference win under head coach Dell McGee. Despite a slow start to conference play, the Panthers remain competitive in the Sun Belt rankings on both offense and defense.
Offensively, the Panthers rank in the top 10 in completion percentage, team passing efficiency, and passing offense in the Sun Belt. Quarterback Christian Veilleux has been leading the team with nine touchdowns and 1,301 yards on 118 completions. Defensively, GSU ranks fourth in the conference for fumbles recovered, with Kevin Swint leading the Panthers in forced fumbles.
Senior linebacker Kevin Swint is chasing a record with four sacks on the season, aiming to tie for the second-place spot for single-season sacks and break the record. Ted Hurst is also three touchdowns away from breaking the single-season touchdown record, while Liam Rickman is on pace to break the single-season field goals made record.
After starting quarterback Christian Veilleux for the first five games, Zach Gibson stepped in as the Panthers’ quarterback in their recent game against Marshall, showing promise with 192 yards and two touchdowns. The redshirt senior transferred to GSU from Georgia Tech for the 2024 season, adding depth to the quarterback position.
Following their matchup at App State, Georgia State will continue their road series at UConn and James Madison before returning home to host Arkansas State on Nov. 16. The Panthers are determined to turn their season around and make a statement in the Sun Belt conference.
