College of Coastal Georgia Men’s Basketball Team Eyes Season Opener Against Middle Georgia State
BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The College of Coastal Georgia (CCGA) men’s basketball team is gearing up for the 2024-25 season, kicking off their campaign on Tuesday against the Middle Georgia State Knights in Cochran, Ga. After a challenging 2023-24 season that ended with an 11-14 overall record and a 3-11 conference standing, the Mariners are determined to re-establish their competitive edge.
Key players Salle Wilson and Kaden McArthur will return to lead the team, following solid performances last season. Wilson, now a senior, was the team’s second-highest scorer, averaging 14.1 points per game, while freshman McArthur chipped in with 11.8 points, showcasing impressive shooting efficiency. Unfortunately, the Mariners will face notable losses, including leading scorer Nick Jiles, who averaged 18.3 points and is among the top ten in the program’s scoring history, and Layton Veon, who contributed 13.6 points per game.
On the other side, Middle Georgia State is also adjusting after losing their four leading scorers, including Brice Martin, who topped their scoring chart with 17.7 points per game. Senior Andrew Prestwood will be tasked with stepping up as the Knights look to enhance their performance, having finished the last season with an 8-19 record and predictions placing them ninth in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC).
CCGA previously secured wins in both matchups against the Knights last season and will aim to continue that trend. The season opener is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Morris Gymnasium, where both teams will seek to establish early momentum for the new season.
