Deputy Brandon Cunningham of the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office was killed while responding to a domestic dispute in northwestern Georgia. It was the first time the sheriff’s office lost a deputy in the line of duty. Cunningham, 30, had been with the office for two years and leaves behind two children. The incident occurred when deputies arrived at a home and were met with gunfire from a suspect, described as an ambush. Cunningham was struck and killed, while the female victim from the dispute was also shot and is in stable condition in an Atlanta hospital. The male suspect was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Sheriff Gary Gulledge asked for prayers for Cunningham’s family and the department, as everyone is grieving the loss of a hero. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is continuing to investigate the incident.
