Two Georgia men, Wesley Olan Landers and Jeffrey Scott Wells, are facing conspiracy and perjury charges in connection to a $123 million Tennessee state contract for behavioral health services for Department of Corrections inmates. Landers, a former deputy commissioner and CFO for TDOC, allegedly provided confidential information to Wells, who was a vice president at Company B, leading to Company B winning the lucrative contract. Landers later joined Company B as a vice president of operations, a position created specifically for him. Both men were fired in February 2021 after it was discovered that Landers had shared confidential information. Company A filed a civil lawsuit, naming Company B and the State of Tennessee as defendants. Landers and Wells are accused of trying to cover up the incident and committing perjury in the lawsuit. If convicted, they face up to five years in federal prison. The investigation is ongoing, and the case highlights the importance of transparency and ethical behavior in government contracts.
