The Bridge Fire in California grew rapidly over 24 hours, becoming the state’s largest wildfire at nearly 48,000 acres and destroying at least 33 homes. The Line Fire in San Bernardino National Forest, spanning over 34,600 acres, was allegedly ignited intentionally by a man who has been arrested. The Airport Fire in Orange County, caused accidentally by heavy equipment, burned over 22,000 acres. Evacuation orders were in place for multiple communities. Thousands of firefighters and resources were mobilized to combat the fires, with Gov. Gavin Newsom declaring a state of emergency and the National Guard providing support. In Nevada, the Davis Fire near Big Bear was also a concern, burning over 5,800 acres. Due to extreme fire conditions and smoke from the wildfires, air quality alerts were issued by officials. The fires were exacerbated by intense heat and dry conditions from a heatwave, with the weather trending cooler but still posing a risk for fire growth. Evacuation warnings were issued for several areas, and resources were stretched thin due to multiple active wildfires in the region. Investigators believed the man arrested for starting the Line Fire may have been involved in other fires as well. Despite the challenging conditions, efforts to contain and control the fires continued with the hope of preventing further destruction and protecting lives and property.
