Former Georgia Running Back Branson Robinson Signs with Georgia State
In a significant move for both player and program, former Georgia running back Branson Robinson has signed with Georgia State, as reported by On3’s Pete Nakos. After three seasons in Athens, Robinson remains in the Peach State, bringing valuable SEC experience to the Panthers. Notably, Robinson has two years of eligibility remaining.
Last season, Robinson played in six games, primarily at the beginning of the year before suffering an MCL injury that sidelined him. He tallied 73 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries, with notable performances against Kentucky and Mississippi State. Prior to his injury troubles, he had a strong freshman season, contributing to Georgia’s national championship victory in 2022, during which he achieved 330 yards and three touchdowns.
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart expressed optimism about Robinson’s prospects, noting that he was having an impressive training camp before his injury. “He was ready to have a great season,” Smart mentioned. However, the injury affected his development and playtime, aspects he will now work on at Georgia State.
Robinson was ranked as a three-star prospect by the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings, coming in at No. 346 overall and No. 25 among running backs. He joined Georgia as a four-star recruit from Madison, MS, where he ranked as the No. 73 overall player in the 2022 recruiting cycle.
As Georgia State looks to enhance its roster, Robinson presents an exciting opportunity to rebound from past injuries and fulfill his potential. With strong high school credentials and previous collegiate performances, both the Panthers and Robinson are poised for an intriguing 2025 season ahead.
