Georgia State University Unveils Naming Rights for GSU Convocation Center

Georgia State University Launches Naming Rights Initiative for Convocation Center

ATLANTA — Georgia State University (GSU) is exploring naming rights for its GSU Convocation Center, marking a significant milestone for the 200,000-square-foot venue that opened in 2022. Serving as the home for both men’s and women’s basketball teams, the center also hosts various university events, academic ceremonies, concerts, and community activities.

"The Convocation Center is pivotal to the Summerhill neighborhood and beautifully showcases our campus and community events," said Charlie Cobb, Georgia State Director of Athletics. With its prime downtown Atlanta location, the center symbolizes GSU’s transformative impact on the area, which contributes approximately $3.2 billion to the metro Atlanta economy each year.

As the largest in-person university in Georgia, GSU serves over 52,000 students and confers around 10,000 degrees annually. The university also connects widely across its five Perimeter campuses in communities like Clarkston, Decatur, and Alpharetta.

"This naming opportunity aligns with our vision of community engagement and urban development," stated L. Jared Abramson, GSU’s executive vice president. "Georgia State is Atlanta’s university, and this partnership will further enhance our brand."

To spearhead this initiative, GSU has partnered with Van Wagner, a renowned firm in college athletics marketing, to identify the inaugural naming rights partner. Mike Palisi, president of Van Wagner College, emphasized the partnership’s goal of strengthening GSU’s ties to the Atlanta community.

As a cornerstone for Georgia State, the Convocation Center recently hosted nationally televised games and university events, enhancing its role in the community. With a reputation for excellence in student success—ranking first among public institutions for undergraduate teaching for five consecutive years—GSU offers significant visibility for potential naming rights partners across various platforms.
