Kaleb Freeman Transfers to Texas Longhorns, Aims for Fresh Start in College Baseball
Northeast Atlanta’s Kaleb Freeman, a standout in college baseball, has officially joined the Texas Longhorns after a turbulent collegiate journey marked by significant achievements and challenges. The formerly committed Georgia State Panthers player made his transfer announcement on Saturday.
Freeman began his college career at North Georgia, where he made an immediate impact by hitting .300 during the 2022 season while playing multiple positions, including catcher and third base. In 2023, at St. John’s River State College, he was named a NJCAA DII Second Team All-American, leading his team with a remarkable .375 batting average, .548 on-base percentage, and impressive power numbers—15 home runs and 29 doubles, topping the league with 71 runs scored.
His subsequent transfer to Auburn, however, did not yield the success he had hoped for, as he struggled with a .200 average over 14 games. Seeking new opportunities, Freeman transferred to Georgia State, where he rebounded spectacularly, recording a .349 batting average with 16 home runs, 28 doubles, and 46 RBIs in 56 starts. His record-setting performance included establishing Georgia State’s single-season highs in doubles (28) and walks (61), while leading the team in several offensive categories.
At Texas, Freeman’s versatility as a player—having experience as both a second baseman and right fielder—will be valuable as the coaching staff seeks an elite shortstop to fill the role left by Jalin Flores, who is expected to enter the MLB Draft in 2025. Freeman, a top-100 transfer portal prospect according to 64 Analytics, is the third impactful addition from the transfer portal for the Longhorns, joining fellow left-handed hitters Josh Livingston and Jack Moronek.
