Georgia State Panthers Claim Victory Over South Alabama Jaguars
ATLANTA – The Georgia State Panthers triumphed over the South Alabama Jaguars with a decisive 6-4 victory on Saturday afternoon, showcasing their offensive power and pitching prowess.
The Panthers took an early lead in the first inning, scoring two runs thanks to sophomore Lauren Brister’s home run, putting them ahead 2-0. They extended their advantage in the third inning, with sophomore Jordan Rayner’s run-scoring single contributing to a two-run push, making it 4-0. Georgia State maintained control, adding another run in the fourth when freshman Ryleigh Garrett hit a leadoff home run, increasing their lead to 5-0.
Although South Alabama managed to close the gap to 5-1, the Panthers continued their assault. Rayner delivered another blow with a solo home run in the fifth, bringing the score to 6-1. Despite a late rally from the Jaguars, who scored three runs, Georgia State held on for the victory.
Senior Sydney Boulware (3-7) dominated in the circle, pitching six innings and allowing four earned runs while striking out four batters. Senior Kate Kastelic also made a notable contribution, throwing a shutout inning in relief.
Offensively, the Panthers saw a stellar performance from Rayner, who went 3-for-3, including a double and a home run, earning two RBIs. Brister and Garrett also impacted the game with home runs and key RBIs, leading Georgia State to a total of nine hits.
With this win, the Panthers improve their season record to 10-22 and will look to finalize the series against South Alabama on Sunday. Game time is set for 12:00 PM.
