Georgia State Falls to Michigan in Home Opener
ATLANTA – Georgia State’s softball team suffered a disappointing 11-1 loss to Michigan in their home opener at Bob Heck Field on Sunday afternoon. The defeat marks a challenging start to the season for the Panthers, who now stand at 1-9 overall.
The game commenced poorly for Georgia State (GSU) as Michigan (5-4) quickly established dominance, scoring three runs in the second inning, followed by two in the third, and an additional three in the fourth. Chloe Middlebrooks’ double in the bottom of the first inning was GSU’s sole hit, and although she reached third base with two outs, the Panthers could not bring her home.
GSU managed to score their only run in the fourth inning through a double-steal executed by Middlebrooks and Kiki Edwards. However, the Wolverines responded decisively, adding three more runs in the fifth inning, which led to a run-rule victory, ending the game after just five innings.
The Panthers will aim to bounce back as they prepare to host Kennesaw State on Tuesday, February 18, at Bob Heck Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Georgia State will look to improve their record and build momentum as the season progresses. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the team in their efforts to recover from this tough loss.
