Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns Announces 2025 Study Committee Appointments
ATLANTA, GA — House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) has unveiled appointments for the Georgia House of Representatives’ 2025 study committees. These committees will convene during the interim to evaluate critical issues affecting Georgians and compile findings and legislative recommendations to prepare for the 2026 legislative session.
“We’ve addressed numerous important policy areas, from insurance rates to medical marijuana, during the last session,” Burns stated. “These committees will gather facts, consider diverse perspectives, and propose smart policies designed to make Georgia the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”
Key committees include:
-
Election Procedures: Chaired by Rep. Tim Fleming, this committee will review Georgia’s election laws and the structures overseeing their administration.
-
Insurance Rates: Led by Rep. Matt Reeves, this committee will probe the insurance industry’s practices to safeguard consumers against unjustified rate hikes.
-
Medical Marijuana Policies: Chaired by Rep. Mark Newton, the focus will be on evaluating existing laws surrounding cannabis products to ensure fairness and protection for Georgians.
-
Cancer Care Access: Chaired by Rep. Lee Hawkins, this committee aims to address the access challenges faced by patients seeking quality cancer treatment.
- 9-1-1 Funding: Lead by Rep. Chuck Martin, this group will examine current funding models to ensure effective modernization of Georgia’s emergency response systems.
Additional key topics for study include smoking costs, gaming legislation, public health funding, and student attendance in education.
Each committee comprises a blend of legislative members and non-legislative stakeholders to ensure comprehensive analysis. As these committees embark on their missions, their findings will contribute significantly to shaping future legislation for the state.
