App State Baseball Faces Elimination After High-Scoring Loss to Georgia State
BOONE, N.C. – In a challenging matchup at Smith Stadium, App State Baseball struggled against Georgia State, suffering a 20-10 defeat on Friday. The Mountaineers fell behind early, allowing five runs in the first inning, a deficit they could not overcome.
The loss sets the stage for a pivotal season finale on Saturday, where App State (22-30, 12-17) will face Georgia State (26-29, 11-18) in an elimination game. The winner will secure the final spot in next week’s Sun Belt tournament.
Key contributions for App State came from Tyler Lichtenberger and Kameron Miller. Lichtenberger launched a two-run home run in the eighth inning, while Miller followed with a three-run shot in the ninth. The duo combined for an impressive seven hits and six RBIs throughout the game. Additionally, Riley Luft added two hits and drove in three runs, showcasing the Mountaineers’ offensive potential.
However, Georgia State’s powerful hitting proved unstoppable, as they recorded five home runs and scored five runs in three separate innings. On the mound, Conner Barozzino was a bright spot for App State, allowing only one run in 3.1 innings of relief and striking out two batters.
As the regular season comes to a close, App State will honor its seniors—Braxton Church, Caleb Cross, Bradley Wilson, Collin Welch, Cody Little, and Olivia Lacy—before the decisive game against Georgia State. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
