Video Captures Car Similar to Bryan Kohberger’s Near Idaho Student Murders Timeline

In the early hours of November 13, 2022, four University of Idaho students were tragically stabbed to death in their off-campus home. A neighbor’s security footage showed a white car, which prosecutors believe is linked to the murders, circling the block multiple times before speeding away shortly after the attack. This footage and other digital evidence will feature in a “Dateline” special investigating the case against suspect Bryan Kohberger.

Investigators identified a white Hyundai Elantra – crucial to the investigation – believed to be tied to Kohberger, who drove a 2015 model. Evidence including DNA and cellphone data placed Kohberger near the crime scene multiple times before the killings, with connections to a cell tower within 100 meters of the house. Additionally, his internet searches indicated a disturbing interest in serial killers and specific sexual content.

Kohberger, a criminology graduate student at nearby Washington State University, was arrested in late December 2022. He faces four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary, with a potential death penalty if convicted. His defense maintains his innocence and has hinted at an “alternate suspect,” while prosecutors have not disclosed a motive.

Kohberger’s interactions with fellow students and his unsettling behavior have drawn attention. DNA from a knife sheath found at the scene matched Kohberger, while a Ka-Bar knife purchased months prior may be linked to the murders. Despite this, questions about other unidentified DNA at the scene have been raised. The upcoming trial is set for August 11, 2023, amid ongoing arguments over evidence admissibility. A surviving housemate will testify about seeing a masked individual, despite the defense’s objections to its relevance.
