Georgia State Panthers Fall to Arkansas State in Series Finale
Jonesboro, Ark. – April 30, 2025 – In a high-scoring showdown at Tomlinson Stadium, Georgia State’s baseball team suffered a tough 13-4 defeat against Arkansas State, concluding a challenging weekend series.
The Panthers (24-21, 9-12 SBC) started strong with a flurry of early home runs from Wills Maginnis, Jack Holley, Jesse Donohoe, and Cooper Milford in the first three innings. However, this offensive surge was quickly overshadowed by Arkansas State’s (22-21, 11-10 SBC) aggressive response. The Red Wolves exploded for eight runs in the first two innings, aided by a three-run homer from Patrick Engskov and a critical five-run second inning that allowed them to establish a commanding lead.
Pitcher Ross Norman (4-6) struggled on the mound, lasting only 1.2 innings while giving up eight runs on nine hits, setting the tone for the challenging game ahead. Despite Georgia State closing the gap to 8-4 in the third inning, Arkansas State continued to extend its lead with a solo homer from Cason Campbell in the fourth inning and additional runs in the sixth and seventh, ultimately finishing the game with a decisive 13-4 victory.
Despite the loss, Donohoe delivered a notable performance, going 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks, and an RBI. Every Georgia State starter reached base, but the team left 11 runners stranded, a statistic that proved costly. The Panthers are now on a four-game losing streak within the Sun Belt Conference.
Georgia State will look to regroup as they host in-state rival Mercer at the GSU Baseball Complex this Wednesday.
