Troy Trojans Dominate Georgia State with Season-High Five Home Runs in 13-6 Victory
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Troy Trojans showcased their power at the plate on Friday night, launching a season-high five home runs to secure a commanding 13-6 victory over Georgia State at the Bob Heck Softball Complex. This win marks Troy’s first five-homer game since March 19, 2021.
With the win, the Trojans (30-21, 9-10 SBC) positioned themselves for the Sun Belt Tournament, needing a series sweep over Georgia State (11-37, 2-17 SBC) after South Alabama’s loss to ULM.
Troy’s offensive effort was led by Taylor McKinney, who extended her reached base streak to 34 games with a home run and a sacrifice fly, notching three RBIs. The senior tied Becca Hartley for the third-most career home runs in Troy history with 39. Caiden Oliva also contributed significantly, hitting her first career three-RBI game with a homer of her own.
Georgia State’s Ryleigh Garrett shone with a 2-for-3 performance, including three RBIs. Despite out-hitting Troy 11 to 9, Georgia State struggled defensively, resulting in missed opportunities on the basepaths.
The Panthers initially took a 2-0 lead in the first inning but the Trojans responded fiercely in the third, tying the game. Troy’s offense surged in subsequent innings, highlighted by back-to-back home runs in the sixth from Dailynn Motes and Kayden Dunn, pushing Troy ahead to a comfortable lead.
Head Coach Eric Newell commented, “It’s nice to take care of business via the long ball… Anytime you hit five homers, it’s hard to lose.” Trojan fans are eager for continued action this weekend as they aim to secure their tournament berth.
