App State’s big fifth inning propels them past Georgia State


App State Softball secured a 5-2 victory over Georgia State in the series opener after trailing by two runs in the second inning. The Mountaineers scored five unanswered runs, with Julia Girk delivering a game-winning two-RBI single in the fifth inning. The win marked App State’s fourth straight victory over the Panthers.

Grace Barrett and Macy Hamby provided sparks for the App State offense, with Madison McIntyre contributing two hits. Left-handed pitcher Sophie Moshos earned her 13th win of the season, striking out three and allowing two runs while stranding eight base runners.

Georgia State scored first in the second inning, but App State answered with a rally in the fifth, highlighted by Girk’s clutch hit. Hamby and Barrett also played crucial roles in tying the score and taking the lead. Moshos pitched a strong game, reaching 100 strikeouts for the season.
