Mountaineers head to Georgia State for second-to-last road series in Sun Belt


The App State softball team is gearing up for a weekend series against Georgia State in Atlanta. The Mountaineers have been performing well, winning five of the last six games in the series and scoring an average of 8.6 runs per game. They are looking to continue their success in Atlanta, where they have won four of the last six games against the Panthers.

In their last series against ULM, App State won one of three games, with Grace Barrett and Taylor Chumbley leading the team offensively. Pitcher Sophie Moshos has been stellar in the circle, posting a 2.00 ERA in 14 innings.

App State’s offense has been on fire, scoring 74 runs in their last 10 games and hitting at least one home run in seven straight games. The team has won back-to-back Sun Belt series against James Madison and Marshall, showcasing their strength in conference play.

Coach Whitney Jones has led the team to become one of the top offensive teams in the Sun Belt, ranking in the top five in multiple categories. Underclassmen have been key contributors, with 76% of hits, 75% of RBIs, and 74% of home runs coming from freshmen and sophomores.

As they head into the series against Georgia State, the Mountaineers are looking to extend their success and continue their strong offensive performance. They will then return home for a midweek game against North Carolina Central before gearing up for the final stretch of the season.
