Two service members were killed and a third was in “serious” condition after their vehicle crashed near the U.S.-Mexico border in New Mexico. The crash occurred on Highway 9 near the Santa Teresa Border Patrol Station, about 13 miles north of El Paso. The service members were assigned to Joint Task Force Southern Border, which was established to support President Donald Trump’s efforts to increase security at the border. The crash is currently under investigation, and details about the victims, including their assignments, have not been released. The incident occurred as part of the military’s presence at the border, with nearly 3,000 active-duty troops deployed in the area as of March. Local authorities and the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, with images showing parts of the vehicle off the roadway. The cause of the crash has not been determined, and the joint task force has not provided further information at this time.
