Panthers Stage Impressive Comeback in Fifth Inning to Beat Kennesaw State 8-7


The Georgia State Panthers pulled off an impressive comeback victory against the Kennesaw State Owls with an 8-7 win. Trailing 5-2 in the fifth inning, the Panthers rallied and took the lead in the sixth inning. Junior Maia Mumpfield led the offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and four RBI. Junior Ashton Schroyer also had a strong showing, going 2-for-5 with two triples and an RBI.

Senior Emily Hodnett picked up the win, pitching four innings in relief, while freshman Sydney Garrett recorded her first save of the season. The Panthers’ offense was highlighted by three triples in the game, with Schroyer leading the way with two.

Georgia State got on the board early in the first inning but fell behind before rallying to take the lead late in the game. The Panthers scored four runs in the sixth inning, including a two-run double from Mumpfield. Despite Kennesaw State scoring two runs in the seventh inning, the Panthers held on for the 8-7 win.

The victory was a team effort, with every Georgia State starter reaching base safely in the game. Schroyer’s power hitting and Mumpfield’s clutch hitting were key factors in the Panthers’ win. With this exciting comeback victory, Georgia State improves to 11-33 on the season.
