Judge finds sufficient evidence to hold Trump administration in criminal contempt for deportation flights

A federal judge has found probable cause to hold the Trump administration in criminal contempt over deportation flights to El Salvador. U.S. District Judge James Boasberg criticized the government’s actions as a willful disregard of his order and ordered any planes in the air to be turned around. The White House invoked the Alien Enemies Act to deport alleged members of a Venezuelan gang, but the judge found that the plaintiffs were not gang members and were being sent to prison without due process. Boasberg warned the government to rectify their actions by April 23, 2025, or face consequences. The White House has not yet commented on the ruling.
