Report cautions about the increasing prevalence of lifestyle diseases among Indians, urges the implementation of preventive healthcare measures

The Apollo Hospitals recently released their fifth edition of the Health of the Nation 2025 (HoN) report, which highlighted the prevalence of lifestyle diseases among Indians. The report emphasized the need for a shift from symptom-based treatment to preventive healthcare, as millions of Indians are living with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and fatty liver disease without any symptoms. The report identified fatty liver disease, post-menopausal health decline, and childhood obesity as critical health challenges that require early, data-driven intervention.

According to the findings, a majority of those screened had fatty liver disease, hypertension, and diabetes without showing any symptoms. Apollo Hospitals Chairman, Dr. Prathap Reddy, stressed the importance of integrating preventive care into educational curricula, corporate wellness programs, and family routines. The report also highlighted the increase in metabolic risks among post-menopausal women and the prevalence of lifestyle diseases among young adults.

Dr. Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals, emphasized the importance of health empowerment in addressing these health challenges. The report also flagged that one in four Indians screened were at high risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and early heart disease among asymptomatic individuals. The report calls for a nationwide shift towards preventive healthcare as a cornerstone of the nation’s well-being today.
