Georgia State Secures Victory with 17 Bench Points in Narrow 53-50 Win over Appalachian State


The Georgia State women’s basketball team secured a 53-50 victory against the Appalachian State Mountaineers thanks to a strong performance from the bench. Mikyla Tolivert led the team with 16 points, while Mya Williams added 12 points off the bench. Crystal Henderson contributed nine points, four assists, and four steals in the win.

The Panthers dominated from beyond the arc, hitting 10 threes on 30 attempts, with Williams draining four treys. Their defense held Appalachian State to just 32.7 percent shooting from the field.

Georgia State took an early lead in the first quarter and maintained it throughout the game, never trailing in the second half. They went on a 12-0 run in the second quarter to build a lead that they held until the end. The Panthers capitalized on turnovers in the fourth quarter, scoring five points off of Mountaineers’ mistakes.

Overall, Georgia State’s bench added 17 points to their scoring output, and the team forced 19 turnovers. Tolivert led the team in scoring, while Mahogany Matthews and Patience Williams both grabbed seven rebounds.

The Panthers’ strong performance from three-point range and tenacious defense contributed to their victory over Appalachian State. With this win, Georgia State improved to 14-12 on the season with a 7-7 conference record. They will look to carry this momentum into their next game against James Madison on February 19th at 6:30 PM.
