Trump is requesting the Georgia court to drop the election interference case against him, arguing that a sitting president cannot be prosecuted.

President-elect Donald Trump has requested the dismissal of the criminal case against him in Georgia, arguing that as a sitting president, he is immune from indictment or criminal process. Trump’s attorney filed a motion stating that the Georgia Court of Appeals lacks jurisdiction in the case and should dismiss it immediately. The case has been on hold pending a decision on whether District Attorney Fani Willis can remain on the case due to a conflict of interest.

Kenneth Chesebro, who was involved in the 2020 fake electors plot with Trump, has also sought to invalidate his guilty plea in the case. Chesebro pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit filing false documents but now claims that some of the charges against him were dismissed as unconstitutional. Despite initially being charged with seven crimes, six were dropped as part of his plea deal.

The fate of both Trump and Chesebro’s cases remains uncertain pending further legal proceedings. The Georgia Court of Appeals is expected to issue a ruling in the spring on whether Willis can continue prosecuting the case against Trump. Chesebro’s post-conviction challenge raises questions about the validity of the indictment and his guilty plea. The developments in these high-profile cases will continue to unfold in the coming months.
