Trump appoints former Georgia Senator Loeffler to head Small Business Administration • Georgia Recorder

Kelly Loeffler Nominated for Small Business Administration Head by President-elect Trump

Former Georgia U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the Small Business Administration (SBA). Trump announced his choice on his social media platform, Truth Social, praising Loeffler’s business acumen and her role in securing Republican victories in Georgia during the recent elections.

Loeffler emphasized the critical role of small businesses in the economy, calling them "the beating heart" and asserting that the "America First Agenda" will foster growth and innovation for entrepreneurs. As co-chair of Trump’s inaugural committee and a prominent supporter, Loeffler’s ties to the former president are well-known; she has been a significant contributor to his campaigns.

Her political career began when Georgia Governor Brian Kemp appointed her to the Senate in late 2019 to fill the vacancy left by Johnny Isakson. Although her appointment faced scrutiny—especially as it came at the expense of Trump’s preferred choice, Doug Collins—she gained national attention during her competitive 2020 campaign, ultimately losing to Raphael Warnock in a runoff election.

Following her Senate tenure, Loeffler founded Greater Georgia, an initiative aimed at increasing conservative voter engagement in the state. The organization recently reported registering an additional 7,000 voters as it seeks to mobilize active participation ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

Despite controversies, including scrutiny over stock trades made during the pandemic, Loeffler was cleared of wrongdoing. As a wealthy former senator, she has expressed commitment to transparency and ethics, particularly regarding potential conflicts of interest in her new role.

As Loeffler steps into this significant position, her efforts to bolster small businesses will be closely watched—and could shape the landscape for entrepreneurship in the U.S.
