Atlanta, GA – December 5, 2024 – In response to a request from the state of Georgia, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended the application deadline for disaster assistance for homeowners and renters impacted by Hurricane Helene and Tropical Storm Debby. Residents in the 63 designated counties now have until January 7, 2025, to apply for federal aid.
Individuals who sustained damages related to Tropical Storm Debby, which occurred between August 7 and August 22, may be eligible for assistance if they reside in Bryan, Bulloch, Chatham, Effingham, Evans, Liberty, Long, and Screven counties. Likewise, those affected by Hurricane Helene in various eastern Georgia counties are also encouraged to seek assistance for serious needs, displacement, home repairs, and losses to personal property.
Applicants must document the damages incurred from each storm separately and must apply for assistance for each incident individually. To facilitate the application process, the quickest method is to visit DisasterAssistance.gov, although applications can also be made in person at a Disaster Recovery Center, via the FEMA App, or by calling the toll-free number 800-621-3362.
