The Georgia State volleyball team secured a 3-2 victory over the JMU Dukes at home, improving their record to 10-5 overall and 1-2 in Sun Belt action. Alessia Cappai led the Panthers with a double-double of 16 kills and 19 digs, while Keionna MacKey added 21 kills. Kaleigh Fitzgerald contributed 18 digs and Kayla Broom had four blocks on the defensive end. The team had three players in double figures in kills and digs, with Alessia Cappai registering a double-double.
Despite losing the first set, Georgia State fought back to win the second set and eventually secure the match with a 15-11 victory in the fifth set. The Panthers never trailed in the final set and dominated on the attacking side with 12 kills. Shanelle Martinez provided 35 assists to help the team secure the win.
The victory was a team effort, with each player contributing to the overall success on both offense and defense. The Panthers are set to take on JMU again on Saturday, October 5 at 2:00 p.m. in their next match. The team will look to carry the momentum from this win into their upcoming game and continue their success in Sun Belt action.
