The Georgia State volleyball team suffered a defeat at the hands of Georgia Southern on Saturday, dropping the match in straight sets. Despite a strong performance from Keionna MacKey, who finished with 16 kills and a .324 hitting percentage, the Panthers could not match the offensive prowess of the Lady Eagles. The loss brings Georgia State’s overall record to 14-12 and their Sun Belt conference record to 5-9.
In the first set, Georgia State fell behind early and could not recover, ultimately losing 25-17. A similar story played out in the second set, with the Panthers dropping it 25-16. Despite a closer third set, Georgia State could not extend the match, ultimately losing 25-23.
Key players for Georgia State included Myllena Torquetti, who had a team-high ace, and Kaleigh Fitzgerald, who contributed 12 digs. Shanelle Martinez led the team with 21 assists.
The Panthers will look to bounce back in their next match against the University of Louisiana Monroe on November 14th at 6:00 PM. With the season winding down, Georgia State will aim to improve their conference record and finish strong in the Sun Belt.
