Some unexpected celebrities have tried their hand at singing Christmas songs, adding some melodic gems to the holiday playlist. Diane Keaton, known for her iconic acting roles, released a Christmas song titled ‘First Christmas’ written by Carole Bayer Sager and Jonas Myrin. Kate Winslet recorded a love song for the soundtrack to Christmas Carol: The Movie, with proceeds donated to charity.
Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta reunited for a one-off Christmas album, ‘This Christmas,’ in 2012. Leighton Meester, best known for Gossip Girl, covered “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” for a Christmas album in 2009. Zooey Deschanel, of New Girl and She & Him, released a Christmas album in 2011, showcasing her vocal talents.
A surprising addition to the list is David Hasselhoff, who released a Christmas album in 2004 to little acclaim. Bill Nighy, famous for his role in Love Actually, recorded a cover of “Love Is All Around” renamed “Christmas Is All Around” in the movie. He also recorded ‘Make Someone Happy’ for the film Arthur Christmas.
These unexpected forays into Christmas music add a unique twist to the traditional holiday playlist. Who knows, maybe some of these songs will become new holiday classics that we’ll be singing along to for years to come.
