TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The No. 19 Alabama women’s basketball team showcased their dominance with a commanding 98-49 victory over Georgia State on Monday. Zaay Green led the charge for the Crimson Tide, finishing the game with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Essence Cody provided solid support, contributing 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Alabama started strong, quickly reversing an early deficit after Georgia State scored 11 of the game’s first 15 points. Green initiated a pivotal 15-0 run, securing a lead that Alabama would maintain for the rest of the game. By halftime, Alabama had built a comfortable 50-27 lead, fueled by Karly Weathers’ 3-pointer that ensured a double-digit advantage.

The second half saw Alabama continuing their dominance, beginning with an 18-2 run led by Cody, while Georgia State struggled offensively, shooting a mere 1 of 10 from the field. Sarah Ashlee Barker and Eris Lester came close to double-doubles, scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively, along with pivotal rebounds.

Alabama’s performance was particularly impressive on the boards, out-rebounding Georgia State 65 to 22, including a staggering 25-4 on the offensive glass. Aaliyah Nye added 11 points as the team shot an exceptional 91.3% from the free-throw line, converting 21 of 23 attempts.

Georgia State’s leading scorer, Mikyla Tolivert, managed just 10 points. The loss drops the Panthers’ record to 5-4 for the season.

In other action, No. 21 Illinois also secured a win, defeating Canisius 68-55, with Kendall Bostic scoring 16 points and Adalia McKenzie adding 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Illini improved to 7-1 this season, continuing their strong defensive performance from previous games.

As both Alabama and Illinois forge ahead, fans are eagerly anticipating their next matchups in the competitive landscape of women’s basketball.
