Alabama Women’s Basketball Defeats Georgia State to Remain Undefeated

Crimson Tide Women’s Basketball Starts Season Strong with Win Over Georgia State

The Alabama Crimson Tide women’s basketball team achieved a significant milestone, improving their record to 9-0 after a commanding 98-49 victory against Georgia State at Coleman Coliseum on December 2, 2024. This marks the team’s first 9-0 start since the 2000-2001 season.

The game, which coincided with the annual Fifth Grade Fast Break event, drew a lively crowd of young fans, providing an educational experience at the arena. Alabama head coach Kristy Curry expressed gratitude to all involved in organizing the event, highlighting the importance of exposing youth to collegiate athletics.

Georgia State initially took the lead, but Alabama quickly responded with a 10-0 run, ending the first quarter ahead 19-15. The Crimson Tide showcased their dominance in the second quarter, leading by 23 points at halftime and further extending their advantage in the second half.

Curry noted, “I thought we played a really good 35 minutes of basketball. I was not pleased with the first five [minutes] but loved our response after that,” emphasizing the team’s resilience.

A key factor in Alabama’s success was their rebounding and free-throw performance, as they collected 65 rebounds—their first game over 60 rebounds since 2014—and shot an impressive 91% from the foul line. Standouts Essence Cody and Zay Green each recorded double-doubles, with Cody scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, while Green led with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

With this win, Alabama currently boasts a 15-game non-conference winning streak, the second longest in program history. The team aims for a perfect 10-0 record as they prepare to face Cal-Berkley this Thursday at 8:00 PM on ESPNU.
