Woman from New York inches closer to cracking 44-year-old mystery surrounding her grandparents’ disappearance

Christine Heller Seaman, a woman from New York, has been haunted by the disappearance of her grandparents, Catherine and Charles Romer, for 44 years. The couple vanished while traveling home from Miami Beach in their 1978 Lincoln Continental. They were last seen in a Holiday Inn in Brunswick, Georgia, and were reported missing when their bed had not been slept in.

Recently, a submerged Lincoln Continental was discovered in a Georgia pond, with one human bone found inside. The vehicle matches the description of the car the Romers were believed to be driving. Personal belongings, such as jewelry and a license plate bearing the couple’s initials, were also found in the car. However, the human remains have not yet been identified, and the vehicle has not been confirmed to belong to the Romers.

Despite the lack of definitive answers, Seaman and her family believe that the couple may have died in an accident rather than falling victim to foul play. This belief has provided a sense of closure and resolution for the family. Seaman described her grandmother, Catherine, as the “life of the party” who was very close to her and her eight sisters, while Charles was remembered as a “lovely and generous man.”

Seaman expressed gratitude towards investigators and a diving team from Florida, the Sunshine State Sonar team, for their efforts to solve the mystery and bring peace of mind to her family. Despite the sadness of the situation, Seaman said that the recent developments have allowed her family to celebrate the lives of their missing relatives and cherish the happy memories they shared.
