Tracy Jackson, a Democratic state representative from Georgia, is contesting the results of her recent election, alleging that voting irregularities may have affected the outcome. Jackson narrowly defeated her Republican opponent, Mack Jackson, by a margin of 0.2 percentage points. However, her opponent has filed a lawsuit claiming that there were enough discrepancies in the vote count to cast doubt on the results.
If Jackson is able to prove that there were indeed enough questionable votes to potentially change the outcome of the election, a judge could order a new election to be held. Jackson’s campaign has expressed a commitment to ensuring that every vote is counted accurately and fairly, and has vowed to pursue a thorough review of the election results for the voters of House District 128.
The Georgia Republican Party has announced its support for Mack Jackson, claiming that redistricting errors allowed voters living outside of the area to participate in the race. The House District 128 includes several cities and counties in the eastern part of the state.
Tracy Jackson, who has served in the House since 2008, has not yet responded to requests for comment on the situation. Despite Democrats gaining two seats in the Georgia House in the recent election, Republicans still hold a majority of 100-80. The outcome of this contested election could potentially impact the balance of power in the state legislature.
