Georgia Tech Prepares for Challenge Against No. 10 Georgia Following Narrow Win Over NC State
In a thrilling finish on Thursday night, Georgia Tech edged out North Carolina State 30-29, setting the stage for their upcoming clash with No. 10 Georgia on November 29. The game showcased the resilience of the Jackets despite severe limitations, including quarterback Haynes King’s shoulder injury and the early loss of top receiver Malik Rutherford.
Offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner employed a strategic quarterback rotation between King and backup Aaron Philo, leading to key plays throughout the match. Though King struggled with just seven passing yards, Philo delivered a stunning performance when it mattered most, spearheading two late-game drives that culminated in a decisive touchdown.
One highlight was a 75-yard drive in the game’s final moments, where Philo completed all four of his passes and added 42 rushing yards, capping it off with an 18-yard touchdown scramble. Despite running into a formidable NC State defense, the Jackets managed 36 rushing attempts and passing attempts, demonstrating adaptability in their game plan.
As Georgia Tech prepares for the formidable challenge against Georgia, Coach Brent Key emphasized the need for a healthy King to provide a credible passing threat. Currently ranked 15th in total defense, the Bulldogs will test Tech’s offensive strategies, which have relied heavily on creativity and misdirection under Faulkner’s guidance.
Philo’s emergence as a reliable option adds depth to the Jackets’ offensive arsenal, leaving Georgia’s coaching staff with much to prepare for. Looking ahead, both players and coaches are focused on refining their strategy to compete effectively against one of college football’s elite teams.
