Jacksonville State edges out Panthers in close 72-67 victory

In a tough road game, the Georgia State men’s basketball team fell to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks 72-67. Despite a strong performance from Nick McMullen, who had 14 rebounds, the Panthers couldn’t secure the win. Malachi Brown contributed 15 points, four assists, and two steals, while Zarique Nutter chipped in with 17 points and six rebounds.

Georgia State initially took the lead in the first half with a 8-0 run, but Jacksonville State fought back in the second half to secure the victory. The Panthers relied on their three-point shooting, making 10 treys in the game, and held the Gamecocks to just 40 percent shooting from the field. They also collected 10 offensive rebounds and scored 11 points on the fast break.

Despite the loss, Georgia State showed strong defensive play and offensive rebounding. Ball movement and three-point shooting were key aspects of their game plan. Toneari Lane and Zarique Nutter led the team with 17 points each, while Nick McMullen pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds.

The Panthers will return home to face Toccoa Falls on Monday, Nov. 18 at 7:00 p.m. Fans can catch the action on ESPN+ and WRAS-FM 88.5. Despite the loss, Georgia State remains focused on improving and preparing for their next game.
