Georgia State Panthers Adjust Ahead of Matchup with Texas State
Georgia State Panthers are bracing for their upcoming game against Texas State, showcasing resilience amidst a series of player injuries. With Ben Chukwuma sidelined, Mason stepped up at left tackle, impressing coaches and fans alike with his performance against Arkansas State. “He did a good job coming in,” said Georgia State head coach Dell McGee, praising Mason’s pass protection, which proved crucial for the team.
New faces have emerged this season, significantly impacting the Panthers’ dynamics. Junior wide receiver Petey Tucker has become a dependable target, boasting 29 receptions for 295 yards, with consistent performances over the last three games. Meanwhile, freshman inside linebacker Damaine Wilson has made his mark, recording 38 tackles and contributing to the defense with one of the team’s five interceptions.
Ian Matthews, a junior defensive lineman, has also stepped up, starting against Arkansas State and tallying four tackles. However, injuries continue to challenge the Panthers, who will also miss running back C.J. Beasley and tight end Ahmon Green in the upcoming game against Texas State.
In light of starting quarterback Darren Gibson’s injury, Georgia State is set to rely on Christian Veilleux, who had earlier led the team to a thrilling win over Vanderbilt. Veilleux’s recent performance against Arkansas State saw him complete 17 of 35 passes for 245 yards, as McGee prepares a game plan focused on maximizing their offensive capabilities against a formidable Texas State team that tops the Sun Belt with an average of 35.6 points per game.
