In a new ad from the progressive evangelical group Vote Common Good, George Clooney encourages male voters to vote for Harris/Walz, even if they have Republican friends. The ad shows a man choosing to vote for Harris after seeing his young daughter in the polling place. Clooney emphasizes that voting choices are private and should not be influenced by others.
Similarly, Julia Roberts narrates an ad for women voters, emphasizing the importance of women having the right to choose in the voting booth. The ad shows a woman in a Stars and Stripes baseball cap confidently voting for Harris, despite pressure from her husband to make the “right choice.”
Vote Common Good aims to remind voters that they can break with Republican friends and family members when it comes to voting. The group, led by evangelical pastor Doug Pagitt, was formed in 2018 to provide a progressive alternative to Trump’s stronghold on conservative evangelical Christians.
These ads highlight the importance of standing up for one’s beliefs in the voting booth, even if it means going against the expectations of others. They serve as a reminder that voting is a personal choice and should not be swayed by external pressures.
