Beyoncé is set to make her first joint appearance with Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday in Houston. This collaboration comes after Harris was granted permission to use Beyoncé’s song “Freedom” as the official anthem for her campaign. The event is expected to be a major closing act for the campaign, with Beyoncé also appearing alongside Willie Nelson. However, there are rumors of Taylor Swift potentially joining Harris as well.
While this will be Beyoncé’s first official rally with Harris, she has a history of endorsing Democratic candidates. In the past, she has performed at events for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, as well as endorsing the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020. Harris is expected to address abortion rights during her visit to Texas, highlighting the threat a second term for Donald Trump poses to women’s reproductive freedom.
Harris will also be joined by Democratic Senate nominee Rep. Colin Allred, as they aim to mobilize voters and encourage them to head to the polls. The campaign is hoping to leverage the political saliency of reproductive rights to drive voter turnout, especially in states where abortion access is a key issue. This joint appearance between Beyoncé and Harris is expected to energize supporters and send a strong message ahead of Election Day.
