Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger provided an update on the 2024 presidential election to the press at the Georgia State House in Atlanta. He announced that nearly 2 million Georgians have already voted, out of the 8 million registered voters in the state. Raffensperger also addressed election security, stating that his office found 20 non-citizens on the voter rolls, who have since been removed and referred to law enforcement. An additional 150 individuals will be investigated to determine their citizenship status.
Despite the findings, election officials believe that these incidents will not impact the voting process in the state. Gabe Sterling, Chief Operating Officer for the Office of Georgia’s Secretary of State, debunked misinformation about voting machines flipping votes, stating there is zero evidence to support these claims. The state also successfully defended against a cyberattack on the website used by Georgia voters to request absentee ballots, believed to have originated from a foreign country.
Cloudflare technology helped protect the website, preventing any disruption to voter services. Sterling emphasized that while they have seen probing attempts in the past, this was the first full-on DDoS attack they experienced. The cyberattack was detected on October 14, but officials confirmed that their systems successfully withstood the attack, ensuring the integrity of the election process.
