Polls Show Trump Gaining Ground in Georgia Ahead of 2024 Election
A recent Cooperative Election Study poll indicates that former President Donald Trump is leading Vice President Kamala Harris among likely Georgia voters, with Trump securing 51% compared to Harris’s 46%. This marks a significant shift, as earlier polls had the candidates in a deadlock or Trump with a slim lead. In a Marist poll, both candidates were tied at 49%, while Trump edged out Harris by a narrow margin in a Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s poll also shows Trump leading Harris 47% to 43%, although 8% of voters remain undecided. However, in a shift, Harris was ahead 51%-47% in a Washington Post-Schar poll, indicating the competitiveness of the race in Georgia.
Once a Republican stronghold, Georgia’s political landscape has transformed into a battleground state over the past decade, notably after President Joe Biden’s narrow victory in 2020. The demographic shifts in Atlanta, characterized by population growth and diversification, have contributed to this change. Notably, both Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock flipped Georgia’s Senate seats in 2020, solidifying the state’s significance in national elections.
While Republicans control state offices and a majority in Congress, Trump’s ability to reclaim Georgia could prove pivotal in the 2024 election.
