Georgia Announces First Round of State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Awards
Atlanta, GA — The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) and the Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) have unveiled the first round of awards from the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP), allocating funds totaling $4,875,501. A meticulous review process by GTA, GEMA/HS, and the Georgia Cybersecurity Planning Committee selected 55 agencies to receive grants in this competitive program.
Initiated through Congress’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021, the SLCGP aims to provide financial support to state and local entities to combat cyber risks and threats to their information systems. "In today’s environment, cybersecurity must be a priority for every organization," remarked Steve Hodges, State Chief Information Security Officer. He emphasized GTA’s commitment to assisting government entities across Georgia in bolstering their cybersecurity strategies.
The SLCGP’s core objectives include establishing robust governance structures to improve incident response, assessing current cybersecurity capabilities, implementing risk-commensurate security measures, and ensuring personnel receive adequate cybersecurity training. Successful applicants demonstrated how their initiatives aligned with these objectives.
For organizations interested in applying for future funding, the next application window is set for October 28 to November 28, 2024. Detailed information can be found by emailing GEMA-GRANTS@gema.ga.gov or visiting the Georgia Emergency Management website.
As a vital component of the Office of the Governor, GEMA/HS works collaboratively with various levels of government and the private sector to safeguard lives and properties against emergencies. The GTA continues to lead in IT and cybersecurity support to enhance the capabilities of state and local governments.
