App State football team reunited with fans, post Hurricane Helene victory
The App State football team celebrated a much-needed victory on Saturday, reuniting with their fans after a long recovery effort in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The game ended in a 33-26 victory against Georgia State, with a crowd of 33,783 eager to support the team.
Despite a rocky start to the season, with a current record of 3-4, the Mountaineers were determined to secure their first Sun Belt victory. Coach Shawn Clark acknowledged the team’s eagerness to reconnect with their fans, even participating in a wall-climbing celebration with students after a touchdown.
Quarterback Joey Aguilar led the team to victory, passing for 299 yards and three touchdowns. Receiver Kaedin Robinson had a standout performance with seven receptions for 121 yards. The defense also played a key role in the win, with strong efforts from players like Santana Hopper who contributed to three sacks.
The victory was not only a boost for the team but also for the community still recovering from the hurricane. Clark expressed his pride in the team and their effort to give the community something to be proud of.
