The former One Direction band member, Liam Payne, passed away at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina. The autopsy report confirmed that he died of polytrauma and internal and external bleeding, with 25 injuries consistent with a fall from a height. Payne was alone at the time of the fall and evidence suggests that he was in a state of substance abuse-induced breakdown. The investigation is ongoing to determine if there was alcohol or drugs in his system. Polytrauma is defined as multiple traumatic injuries affecting multiple organs or systems. The 911 call made before Payne’s death reported a guest who had been destroying objects in his room due to drug and alcohol-induced behavior. Payne died at the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires, and his death was classified as “doubtful/undetermined” due to the lack of conclusive information about the cause of death. Payne had a history of addiction prior to his death.
