Remains of missing 16-year-old girl last seen in 2005 found in Colorado freezer

The body parts found in a freezer earlier this year in Colorado have been identified as those of 16-year-old Amanda Leariel Overstreet, the daughter of the home’s previous owner. Her death is being investigated as a homicide and the investigation is ongoing. The grim discovery was made in January after the home near Grand Junction was sold to a new owner, who found the freezer left behind by the previous owner. Inside the freezer were a head and forearms with hands attached, and Amanda had not been seen since April 2005. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is conducting forensic testing and investigating the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. The rest of Amanda’s body has yet to be found. The Mesa County coroner’s office confirmed the identification through DNA analysis, and the manner of death is being investigated as a homicide. The cause of death has not been released and there are no further details at this time. Amanda lived in Grand Junction and Harris County, Texas. The sheriff’s office emphasized that the home is now owned by someone else who is not connected to the case, as the house was renovated and sold after the previous owner’s disappearance.
