Vice President Kamala Harris, 59, released a summary of her medical records from her White House physician, Dr. Joshua Simmons, who declared her to be a healthy individual with a medical history of seasonal allergies and urticaria (hives). She has been treating her allergies with over-the-counter medications and her hives with allergen immunotherapy for the past three years. She has never experienced severe symptoms related to these conditions. Harris follows a healthy diet, engages in daily aerobic and strength training exercises, and drinks alcohol in moderation while abstaining from tobacco products. Her last medical exam in April was unremarkable with all routine exams and bloodwork coming out normal.
Presidential candidates usually release their medical records, and Harris is the first to do so. Former President Donald Trump, who had pledged to release his records, has not done so since a brief report in 2023 saying he was in excellent health. President Joe Biden, 81, faced concerns about his age during his re-election campaign, but now the focus is shifting to Trump’s own age of 78. Harris’s campaign is using Trump’s attacks on Biden’s age against him, releasing an ad questioning his fitness to serve as president. The ad highlights a video of Trump appearing to slur his words and a Fox News host saying he has been “off his game.” Harris’s team is seeking to turn the tables on Trump and make his age a central issue.
