Doug Emhoff, the nation’s first second gentleman, visited Georgia to campaign for his wife, Vice President Kamala Harris, in her bid for the presidency. Emhoff made stops in Newnan, metro Atlanta, and Athens, meeting with voters and promoting Harris’ stance on LGBTQ rights. He was joined by prominent Georgia Democrats, including Sen. Raphael Warnock, Stacey Abrams, and actress Julia Roberts, who all voiced their support for Harris.
Emhoff highlighted Harris’ track record of advocating for LGBTQ rights throughout her career and expressed concerns about the erosion of fundamental rights following the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision on abortion. State Rep. Sam Park, the first openly gay man in the Georgia Legislature, emphasized the importance of electing Harris to counteract anti-LGBTQ legislation.
Emhoff also criticized Harris’ opponent, former President Donald Trump, painting him as extreme and dangerous. Roberts urged the crowd to engage in conversations with those who do not support Harris, in an effort to sway undecided voters. With Election Day approaching, Emhoff and supporters are working to secure votes for Harris in Georgia, where polling suggests a close race.
Early voting in Georgia begins soon, and Election Day is fast approaching on Nov. 5. Harris is considered a slight underdog in the state, but still has a chance of winning. Emhoff and his team are optimistic about Harris’ chances and are working hard to rally support in the final stretch of the campaign.
