Tesla CEO Elon Musk introduced the company’s Cybercab concept at an event, showcasing a two-seater vehicle with no steering wheels or pedals. Musk mentioned that Tesla has 21 Cybercabs and a total of 50 autonomous cars at a studio in Burbank, California. The company plans to produce the Cybercab before 2027 with a price tag below $30,000. Musk also announced plans for unsupervised Full Self-Driving technology in Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in Texas and California next year.
In addition to the Cybercab, Musk revealed plans for a Tesla Bot to help with daily tasks, as well as an autonomous electric Robovan that can transport people or goods. Both vehicles will use inductive charging for recharging. Musk has a history of setting ambitious goals for Tesla’s autonomous technology, including promises of achieving full autonomy by certain deadlines that have not been met.
At the event, Musk invited attendees to test ride the autonomous vehicles and introduced Optimus, a humanoid robot in development. He emphasized that the robots would interact with humans and serve drinks at a bar on site. The event marked Tesla’s first product unveiling since the Cybertruck in 2019. The presentation ended with a group of Optimus robots dancing to music, signaling a lighthearted conclusion to the event.
