Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a powerful speech at the UN General Assembly, calling for “real peace” and criticizing plans that ignore the suffering of Ukrainians. He suggested that the proposed peace formula, with the support of nearly 100 nations, is the best opportunity for peace as it eliminates the veto power present in the UN’s security council that often hinders resolution of war matters.
Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of holding those responsible for war crimes in Ukraine accountable, restoring nuclear safety, and ensuring food security. He warned of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s plans to attack Ukraine’s nuclear power plants, potentially leading to a nuclear disaster.
The Ukrainian president also highlighted the significance of unity among nations in supporting Ukraine’s fight for freedom. He expressed gratitude for the support of NATO in strengthening Ukraine’s army and discussed the need for enhanced air defense.
Zelenskyy condemned the ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine and called for a united front to force Russia into peace. He shared that Ukraine captured Russian soldiers during an operation to recapture an aggregate plant in the Kharkiv region.
As Zelenskyy continues to rally support for Ukraine’s cause, world leaders, including outgoing NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, have pledged their commitment to helping Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. The UN General Assembly serves as a platform for Zelenskyy to seek global assistance in ending the war and restoring peace in the region.
