A U.S. citizen, Daniel Joseph Schneider, has been sentenced to six years in jail and fined 100,000 roubles in Russia for kidnapping his son, a Russian citizen. He was attempting to leave the country with the child without permission from the mother when he was detained near the border with Poland. Schneider’s lawyers were not available for comment. In August, a prisoner exchange between Russia, the United States, and other countries involved 24 prisoners, with 16 moving from Russia to the West and eight sent back to Russia from the West.
